Born and raised in the Columbus, Ohio area, I’ve lived in the suburbs all of my life until moving off to Indiana University. I grew up in a close knit family who are a very important part of my life. Currently, my entire family is enrolled in some form of college class, including my only brother who’s in high school. In conjunction with academics, my parents have always encouraged my brother and me to be active outside of the classroom. Throughout high school I was on the varsity bowling team as well as the drum line. I don’t bowl much anymore, but I do work at the campus bowling alley in the Indiana Memorial Union.
Since the age of four, music has been a key part of my life. I have played percussion instruments for ten years and the oboe for seven. The summer of 2009 my practice finally paid off because I was invited to join the Columbus All-Star Brass and Percussion ensemble on a trip to New York City where we performed at the world renowned Carnegie Hall. I was a member of the drumline in both high school and college for a total of eight years as well as section leader of the cymbal line for two years.
Despite my strong interest in music, I majored in Informatics. Technology and innovation have always intrigued me, more specifically how online media has evolved into what it is today. A lot of my hobbies directly relate to my Informatics major. In college, I was the webmaster for the drum line (link) as well as the co-president of the Geocaching Club at IU (link). Geocaching, in short, is a worldwide user based scavenger hunt using GPS technology. Outside of school related activities I love to go disc golfing, hiking, and camping. I try to stay as active as my computer related studies will let me.
